River cruising is most certainly the fastest growing sector within the travel Industry for so many reasons and many of our clients are already enjoying their 9th or 10th river cruise !
Firstly you are able to visit so many destinations you probably would never visit on a conventional holiday and in many cases sailing right into the heart of the town or city you are visiting, and just steps away from local sights, shops, museums, galleries and local life ... how good is that?
With a huge choice of beautiful European rivers to cruise on, visiting vineyards along the River Douro in Portugal, pretty hamlets in Germany, and medieval villages in France, at the same time learning about life many centuries ago from the excellent and very knowledgeable guides who often inject a bit of humour into their tours too and believe me if you ask them a question they know the answers !
Of course you will have the opportunity to visit some of the great cities such as Budapest, Cologne, Amsterdam, Lyon, Avignon, Koblenz, Porto, Vienna, Nuremberg and Strasbourg to name just a few with so many more as the list is extensive, The Russian waterways are spectacular too.
The Christmas markets are always extremely popular having done a couple myself, I highly recommend you book early as it is such a small window with the markets in Europe generally starting in the last week of November and they sell out very fast.
If you are looking to travel further afield you also have the choice of many wonderful destinations where river cruising is a perfect way to explore places you never imagined you would ever visit including The Zambezi river, The Amazon, The Mekong Delta , The Yangzte River, India, Burma and the mighty Mississippi on a paddle steamer ! All these can make a perfect extension to a land based holiday so worth giving us a call to discuss the possibilities.
As certified cruise experts, some of the team have had the opportunity not only to sail on several river cruises but to also attend the annual travel trade River Cruise convention’s in Cologne and Amsterdam making some great contacts along the way with over 20 River cruise lines from 4* Croisi Europe up to the creme de la Creme of River cruising on stunning ships including 5* Uniworld , Tauck and Scenic and Crystal River Cruises.
In 2013 Jenny took her 1st river cruise, on the 4* Gerard Schmitter River cruise ship, just one of the extensive fleet of the French river cruise company Croisi Europe, the cruise was full board to include breakfast, lunch and dinner however from 2014 Croisi Europe’s fleet became All Inclusive!
Here is her experience:
Sailing from Cologne to Strasbourg and docking within the heart of several towns along the way including Koblenz, Koenigswinter where we stayed overnight. but of course we wanted to embrace the local nightlife and went into town for a drink and to mix with the locals, the next day we cruised along the Rhine making a couple more stops before sailing into the beautiful town of Rudesheim where we enjoyed some wine tasting by a jolly vineyard owner called Adolf, we had great fun there, we also visited the Mechanical music museum, a must do if you are visiting Rudesheim. It is incredible to see the way music was played centuries ago!
We also visited Mannaheim and Heidleberg all that in 4 days so as you can see river cruising is a great way to get right into the heart of a the towns and cities.
We must have passed 100 castles or more on our incredible journey down the Rhine and Moselle, whilst learning a little bit of the history on the way.
We finished in Strasbourg and visited the beautiful Christmas markets , and now I know what all the fuss is about...this is certainly the way to shop in the most stunning settings, but be careful when it comes to luggage allowances as it is very tempting to buy so many beautiful and unusual gifts !
