Greece has always been a much loved destination for centuries and is steeped in culture and history with hundreds of fascinating archaeological sites and monuments from every period, such as The Parthenon in Athens, Olympia Epidaurus, Mycenae, Tiryns, and the Temple of Apollo just to name a few.
In addition to the more familiar islands we all know, the mainland offers a plethora of options for a perfect “get away from it all” secluded Mediterranean holiday! Why not escape to the mythical Peloponnese where myth meets history. Byzantine churches, unique villages and wonderful alluring castles set amidst stunning natural beauty, forests and mountains, rivers and caves, making this part of Greece ideal for relaxing holidays, touring, sports and culture. Not to mention that the Peloponnese is surrounded by the beautiful Greek ocean, with gorgeous sandy beaches and stunning landscapes.
Visiting unspoilt Greece, and staying on some of the more unfamiliar smaller islands taking you well away from mass tourism, many of these little islands can be easily reached by ferry from Athens where you will find totally unspoilt fishing villages full of laid back, tranquil charm, taking you back to romantic Greece as it was a few decades ago.
If you are wanting a more fulfilling city break then Athens is a must, or why not consider the hidden gem of Thessaloniki ...I can highly recommend a short break here, brimming with great boutiques, bars and restaurants, enjoying the lively street entertainment whilst you indulge in the mouth watering freshly caught fish and a bottle of wine or two.
